My Valentine’s Day finds, and this week’s events

Sculpted Hat with Birds, free Valentine’s gift from Happy Mood.

While I’d recovered from the flu fairly recently, my periods of fatigue seem to have only increased (common, I’m told, after being ill). On top of which my beloved (and new) laser mouse decided to develop a bad case of drift, making it impossible to even rotate a large item I’d rezzed. I rely on this mouse’s sensitivity for finer control over my primwork, so you can imagine how much of a setback this is.

Fortunately, this past week, in which we’ve been quite thoroughly spoiled by the grid-wide Valentine hunts and gifts being so freely given in all the update groups, seemed one for as much good as it was for the bad. Firstly I was invited to become the editor of Glam SL Magazine, and had the honour of modelling in the magazine launch fashion show for Ghost, Muism, Leezu Baxter, Nicky Ree, Paper Couture, and Cachet. In my opinion this was one of the most well-produced shows I’ve modelled in. It was an opportunity to work with folks like Tamara Kirshner and Miko Omegamu, and the drive of everyone involved was nothing short of inspiring. I’m looking forward to what I can contribute to the magazine, and have already begun work on next month’s issue, which I promise you will be worth the wait.

The new home of Fleur, formerly Tete a Pied skins, opened with a Casino Royale-themed party next to Nicky Ree’s Tropical Orchid sim. CJ has done wonders with the build, which I recognised from the interior as being a beautiful re-creation of the world-famous Raffles Hotel in Singapore, and I only regret that I was late to the party. There was much banter and a roulette table, and the partygoers won gift cards for both Fleur and Nicky Ree. Of their new Shoujo skin line my favourite has to be the one inspired by Isabella from Paradise Kiss – you’ll know which if you’ve watched the series 🙂

As for Valentine’s gifts, you won’t want to miss out on some of the offerings from smaller boutiques that aren’t on any of the feeds. From the items that have been blogged elsewhere, I liked the gifts from Celestial Studios’ group, Veschi in the La Reina hunt, as well as the Alchemy dress (still available until the 14th at Alchemy).

Happy Mood is best known for its adorable sculpted pets (especially its cuddle rabbits) and its whimsically decorated shop in Osaka. I was fortunate enough to hear of their free Valentine’s Day gift available today, a beautifully sculpted hat with birds and a sprig of leaves, shown above. I think this is one of the best Valentine’s Day gifts out there, so be sure to stop by and get yourself a copy. Note that you have to find the item 😉

Kiki’s Closet, which has a number of very well-done goth accessories and chokers, is giving away a very detailed V-day belt. I would prefer this in black or white leather rather than brown, but it’s mod, so the textures can be changed. The belt is located on the boardwalk rather than the store itself.

Must Haves! Dragonfly Brooch by ICING

Posted by mannarosewood on February 2, 2008

icingdragonfly_001-copy.jpg

I just had to share. I love this gorgeous dragonfly brooch by Miko Omigamu of ICING. I saw it on a woman passing me by and I just to stop her and appreciate it. It’s absolutely an intricate charm and perfect for the coming spring season!

I own a piece or two if ICING clothing and adore the excellent quality but especially the consistent designs. Many floral patterns. One can never have enough floral patterns in their wardrobe. — This dragonfly brooch seems to be the only jewelry type item for sale in the shop and it conveniently comes with the Femme en Noir outfit. ICING store is currently having a 50% off Sale so the brooch with the dress is only 147L at the moment.

I love this. You will too!Buy it, rotate it, adore it! For someone who focuses on apparel this gem of a brooch is better than the quality of many jewelry-focused designers. Miko Omigamu, make more jewelry!

Virtual Credit Cards

Posted by mannarosewood on February 1, 2008

manna rosewood says:

So these group of people started an amazing Second Life magazine called The Homme Mag. Absolutely wonderful! Beautifully written and visually pleasing. At-least it has all the aesthetics I appreciate. Honestly I’m more of a skimmer than a reader when it comes to fashion magaziness and blogs. I feel the visual presentation of fashion is more important than the wordy fu-fa! You know what I mean? — The Homme Mag caught my attention with astouding presentation and kept my interest with witty content. Check it out!

Anyway, the point is, after I finished flipping through The Homme Mag I noticed an ad for a virtual credit card company in SL. I also noticed a shop earlier this week using the program and the credit card purchase is cheaper than if you buy with lindens. Let me just say that after the whole GINKO incident last year I assume people would be more wise about their virtual decisions. I had friends who were “depositing money” in the GINKO bank and I’d ask them Why? For what? This is virtual!

And now a new trendy credit card program has risen with many stores participating. My personal advice: don’t use money you don’t have or own! Find a sugar daddy for goodness sake but don’t use or fall into these kind of virtual devil-deals that has trapped so many in first life. I understand that Second Life we value any closeness to First Life. We want to indulge in this new world but sometimes don’t want it to be too different than our original one. We want big breasts, or a six-pack and the height of Michael Jordan. Fine! That’s fine! But see credit in first life has a purpose. We build credit to show how responsible we are. We put money in first life banks because it’s safer than keeping that $10,000 in a shoebox under our beds.

Second Life is different. Our money is secure in neon green at the top of our screens. If you don’t have an account to convert real money to virtual money or you’re currently not making money in-world then don’t sign-up for a virtual credit card. It’s trouble, trouble, trouble!

On another note, there is good virtual plastic. Specifically the kind being used by BLAZE Fine Fashions and some other stores.

The look is as chic as a credit card so it can tickle your fancy if you really want a virtual card. However it works like a Gift Card (Psychologically convince yourself it’s a credit card). You buy a certain amount and when it runs out you fill it up again (or the sugarpapa or sugarmama fills it up for you). This is the practical way to enjoy virtual credit as a virtual consumer without your strings getting mangled in virtual debt.
