Cotton Candy Tart

Posted by Lucas Lameth on May 6, 2008

Only one outfit today! I’ve been shopping too much and having lots of fun putting together these style posts but I’ve been heavily neglecting my other Second Life projects. My shop therapy quickly evolved into indulge shopping. So at the end of my SL day I think I will focus on one outfit and evenly distribute my caffeine highs.

This outfit was again inspired by a shirt from H&V (Heart Attack & Vine). I love the colors and style. It reminded me of Wonder Bread. Or maybe a t-shirt a little boy in the 50’s would sport in a milk commercial, a Lassie show or Pleasantville. At first I wore shorts with the shirt but that was TOO boyish and I wanted to “man-up” the outfit but also keep the “I’m going to the Carnival, ta-la-la” look. — Yesterday a stranger AV hit on me in IM starting with, “Cute AV but how old are you? You look underage” but after I told him I was twenty-three he emote sighed in relief and continued his charm. Which was lame anyway.

I bought new boots from UBU (Urban Bomb Unit) again because they just happen to match my new shirt. I wanted to buy some high-lace boots of theirs but this was totally better even though I have the black skull version. Also picked up Noam Sprocket’s latest sex hair release. It took effort to mod it onto my fat head but alas it was a success! My awesome cute Watermelon Bag by Shunta Watanabe is from the Koreshan Bake Sale this past weekend. I sure hope its not discontinued because its so cute and hella stylish. Kiwi and Orange versions are also sold seperately. I snatched the Kiwi, too.

I wanted one of those big circle swirl hypnotic colored lollipops but I couldn’t find any in SL so I settled for this awesome sculpted free Cotton Candy from Rave Nation. I also found this neck star tattoo that that comes in all layers from Rave Nation (undershirt, shirt, jacket) and you gotta love that! I was able to keep my Aitui tattoo and wear the Star tat as a a shirt layer. Anyway, cheers!

Three new looks today inspired by Heart Attack & Vine apparel. I followed a link by Phoenix Chapman of ‘Be Less Stupid’ blog loving the style and color palette of the clothes. While all women clothes were posted, I saw a particular shirt/vest combo I could potentially convert to male fashion. However to my valiant surprise H&V had a mysterious staircase leading down to a basement where it was filled with all sorts of trendy men’s clothes. Hah! I hate stores like this in Second Life because I become their devote loyal customer (their witty clothing names help, too). It makes me want to rip my Avatars clothing from my monitor and wear it myself in first life. However, fashioning yourself in Second Life can be a great way to experiment before you invest in real life price tags on your mission to style. — So on to my H&V love affair!

Look # 1 – Very skater chic. If I can say that without letting on my homo then so be it. H&V had a few graphic-t’s all of which I adore and will most likely find combos for. By the good graces of fashion all layers are included! (undershirt, shirt, jacket). I scrunched up my Armidi jeans and invested in the Maitreya Men Desert Boots. These are high quality boots every man should own. It comes with tied or untied lace options which is pretty neat. My hair is Taylor by ETD which is sold as a womans hair but its perfect for guys looking for long hair without looking girly.

Look # 2 – I’m a cardigan whore. So this H&V cardigan was a must have off the bat. The texturing is excellent and so are the sculpty scrunched sleeves. The two-button style make it more interesting and it comes stapled with a yellow/white shirt. I don’t mind when designers/content creators pre-set your clothing layers for you when they obviously have good taste. White sneakers have been a necessary fashion trend since I can remember and hasn’t ended yet. From prep to ghetto every good style-guy owns a good pair of white sneakers which they meticulously groom. Get them at DETOUR along with a variety of other sneakers for men (and women).

Look # 3 – Another cardigan from H&V. This one with hipster flavor. I paired it with a delicious bag from Xia Xevious. Made for women but I saw the bag as the perfect murse (man-purse). All you budding metrosexuals can get away with it. — My shoes are PornStar Slip-ons by UBU (Urban Bomb Unit). There are a lot of van-like slip-ons popping up in-world (Akeyo, Truth, Aitui, Shiny Things) and they are all fantastic but what makes UBU shoes stand out is their fabric/stitches/sole change on command to so many options and you can change one shoe if not both for extra flavor. Not to mention the excellent sculpty and texture work. Get them. You need them.

Style Diary

So I have a boot addiction. I saw these awesome rain boots on the fashion feed and decided I needed them no matter what. The boots were the inspiration for this outfit and everything just kind of worked along. I’d post pictures of me naked wearing just the boots but I’m not sure if that meets the fashion standard of this blog.

I bumped into one of my fashion clad male buddies who usually sports eccentric colorful wear like a good NY hipster. He was wearing ‘Random Industries’ brand by Garbage Prototype clothing and I fell in-love. I usually avoid Random like most photosource clothing but boy-oh-boy when style is concerned Random has it all packed down to the cheesecake. I spend a good dish of lindens there today but am most pleased to sport this striped-t with vest. It’s artsy-fartsy and super sexy which was exactly the look I was going for. The awesome tie, which apparently is decked with skulls just like my boots is from The Good Life. The high detailed cuffs are my favorites which I always whip out when Im feeling a bit hipster-grunge you can also find at The Good Life. And what a Good Life it is indeed.

There isnt a lot of hair that matches my new Laqroki skin and shape combo so I was pleased to find this simple artsy hairstyle from Truth. That man is whipping up quite an amazing batch of hair for men and women. I think the greater half of his store is now hair. Which means you should drop by and get a new do.

LAQROKI I was curious about the new Laqroki skins and I found a skin called Ethan I absolutely couldn’t take off. I usually wear Abyss, but that skin fad has created another clone era for ideal male AVs in Second Life. I was ecstatic at the selection at Laqroki but also the quality. Their previous work felt a little too photo-real but these skins have so many variety and ethnic flavor. The quality also feels like it went up a few notches or perhaps thats just me gushing over the new kin. Ethan had an Asian/Oriental feel and being Pacific Islander in real life I was instantly drawn to the look. I modified my shape a little and am pleased with the baby-faced result in combo with my new skin. So visit Laqroki and check out their skins. Maybe your new favorite skin will be an undiscovered Laqroki.

MUISM My tastes fall into more hand-painted clothing rather than photosourced clothing. I have always stayed away from Redgrave and Muism because of some very photosourced quality and high prices. Meanwhile handpainters, who Im confident work much harder, charge less. Today I was surprised to be seduced by Muism. I found these sculpty scarves that Ive been looking for in Second Life (and enjoy the style in real life) but also I found some great mens poses and a variety of mens bags. The one I chose today is an army style bag similar to a style I own IRL. So I had to have it. They have other great selections though and if you are a male fashion horse you must check it out. I love the Muism tank top which comes in many layers. My favorite tank is from Aitui but all of Aituis shirts and tanks are jacket layer which make them impossible to layer underneath button downs and jackets.

HOORENBEEK Amazing shoe store where you can get these hip new cowboy boots either in a new or used style in a few colors. A friend had told me about this store and ever since I have been obsessed. Their prices are also a bit high but their style and quality are absolutely unique. They make mens shoes that are up to date in-style IRL in SL. While hoorenbeek sells some apparel and accessories their main key item is their shoes. –There are a lot of great mens footwear out there already, but some are fantasy-like, flamboyant or very grunge. Other than hoorenbeek there are also great boots at Maitreya and City Walk/Formal shoes at Shiny Things.
