Silver Pied

Oops! Here I am again. It seems my leisure time two days in a row has been doing style posts with Paper Couture as inspiration. All I have to do is accessorize (since the outfits are whole) and think of ways how I can rock the new couture.

Let’s talk about this outfit. Eye pattern on the jacket (consistent in the whole collection) with humble hues for a man. Brilliant. Deep sexy v-neck slightly sheer grey shirt. Perfect. I tighten the loose pants (normally white) and tint them cream color to balance my gold hair. Muism scarf can practically be worn with anything but fits into this outfit since its simple and not too fluffy. White sneakers from Detour keep the outfit hip and young. Muse wrist watch and pearl earrings for a touch of luxury. You know, speaking of, I was reading about pearls on a forum on the web and some jewelers and stylists were debating if there was a place for pearls in mens fashion in the future. Maybe, maybe not, but I took this info as fashion forward and tried it out.

I couldnt decide on the angelic look or the modern white knight look so I decided to do both with Illusions (Siyu Suen) gorgeous sculpted wings along with G-Fields equally gorgeous sculpted roses. The rose is my sword and my white stallion the stretch limo (not shown). Cheers!

LAQROKI I was curious about the new Laqroki skins and I found a skin called Ethan I absolutely couldn’t take off. I usually wear Abyss, but that skin fad has created another clone era for ideal male AVs in Second Life. I was ecstatic at the selection at Laqroki but also the quality. Their previous work felt a little too photo-real but these skins have so many variety and ethnic flavor. The quality also feels like it went up a few notches or perhaps thats just me gushing over the new kin. Ethan had an Asian/Oriental feel and being Pacific Islander in real life I was instantly drawn to the look. I modified my shape a little and am pleased with the baby-faced result in combo with my new skin. So visit Laqroki and check out their skins. Maybe your new favorite skin will be an undiscovered Laqroki.

MUISM My tastes fall into more hand-painted clothing rather than photosourced clothing. I have always stayed away from Redgrave and Muism because of some very photosourced quality and high prices. Meanwhile handpainters, who Im confident work much harder, charge less. Today I was surprised to be seduced by Muism. I found these sculpty scarves that Ive been looking for in Second Life (and enjoy the style in real life) but also I found some great mens poses and a variety of mens bags. The one I chose today is an army style bag similar to a style I own IRL. So I had to have it. They have other great selections though and if you are a male fashion horse you must check it out. I love the Muism tank top which comes in many layers. My favorite tank is from Aitui but all of Aituis shirts and tanks are jacket layer which make them impossible to layer underneath button downs and jackets.

HOORENBEEK Amazing shoe store where you can get these hip new cowboy boots either in a new or used style in a few colors. A friend had told me about this store and ever since I have been obsessed. Their prices are also a bit high but their style and quality are absolutely unique. They make mens shoes that are up to date in-style IRL in SL. While hoorenbeek sells some apparel and accessories their main key item is their shoes. –There are a lot of great mens footwear out there already, but some are fantasy-like, flamboyant or very grunge. Other than hoorenbeek there are also great boots at Maitreya and City Walk/Formal shoes at Shiny Things.

Little Gems For the New Year

Posted by Caliah Lyon on December 31, 2007

Ever since we explored Metabirds and Kabuki back in April of 2007 in our search for Donmai Frederick’s Back and Forth (the only Japanese designer we were well-acquainted with at the time), to us, Japanese sims have provided a wealth of unique shopping opportunities. The variety and innovation to be found in their shopping districts is astonishing, as well as the adaptability and range that the designers showcase in commonly having a wide range of products under one label. Only in a Japanese sim have I seen boutiques selling katanas side-by-side with nail polish and cowboy boots.

Although for some time the focus has been upon such talented clothing designers as Kotobuki Jewell of Bijou and Bettypage Voyager of BP, I visit Japanese sims these days for smaller, but no less delightful finds: beautifully made eyes, delicately hand-painted stockings, inexpensive but well-done poses, and other treats.

Glanz

I would never have discovered this boutique without the help of Beyonce Quinhua, even though I’d visited Higashioasaka many a time. A member of the virtual “idol group” Piatto, I came upon her blog and immediately noticed the lustre of the eyes she was using in many of her photos. A helpful IM and landmark later, and I was hooked on what I believe to be some of the best eyes in Second Life.

The Transparency Shine series eyes by Tsuru Shan have detailed, shimmering irises combined with sharp highlights for an exceptionally luminous quality that’s evident even to people not zoomed in on your face, and well-shaded, realistic whites devoid of the excessive redness and veins that mar many otherwise decent eyes. They come in sets of two sizes (medium and large) for 300L, which is higher than most, but considering the quality and detail that went into these eyes, and the fact you get two sizes, they are well worth it. These eyes are no-copy and transfer and look good in both Windlight and without atmospheric shaders.

L-R Top: Glanz Eyes in Clear Grey; Glanz Eyes in Noble Purple; L-R Bottom: Glanz Eyes in Ocean Blue; Glanz Eyes in Fresh Blue. 300L each for two sizes, M-L.

The poses sold here by alu Voom are promising as well, and like many in these sims, relatively affordable at 30L for photo poses and 80L for animated ones; I already have two of her animated stands in my ao and replaced my old sit with the free one from their store. I’m looking forward to the poses that they’ll be putting out in the future. Glanz also sells stockings, and Tsuru graciously provided a few samples of her new offerings – metallic knee stockings with black lace trim.

Hal*Hina

Named after its two proprietresses, Halhi Yoshikawa and Hinako Runo, a branch of their store was my first stop in the Aventi Islands, a string of shops located in an idyllic little beach atoll (the “Hal*Hina open!” drawn in the sand is a cute touch). I came too late for their free Christmas gift, a set of lace-trimmed stockings in jewel colours, but you can still buy a free set of stockings, some basic eyes, or join their group to avail of a charming set of eyes with coloured hearts in the pupils. These, like many of the eyes I’ve discovered in the Japanese sims, are of good quality and a noticeable lustre, and I immediately went back when they released the plain version, Pure Eyes, the next day in their main store. All their various eye sets are very reasonably priced at 120L per pack of five colours.

Second Night Life ll

I just wasn’t done shooting at the “The L Word” Sims so here’s the sequel from Manna’s storyboard snapshots. Cheers! — The social scene is half the fun of fashion. First we start with a simple but oh-so sleek Gisaci Classic Cashmere Turtleneck in Charcoal (L$145) and Armidi Limited A001 Jeans in Regular Industrial (L$145). Dark denim is always key for a comfortable semi-formal look. Blue and light denim recommended for casual day wear and with light colors like pastel. Remember, Caliah Lyon’s Muse Classic Tank Watch (L$200 set of two) will fit MEN and WOMEN. I cannot stress this enough. These are the classiest watches in Second Life. Not owning them is a FASHION SIN! — Get these stylish 1-prim wine glass decorations (L$90 m/c/nt) at mike’s studio, Roosa (217, 103, 27).

soignelucas_1-4.jpg

Refreshed? Start the night life off with Armidi Limited new Paris Henley in Black (L$125). Ginny’s Last Call Moderno Ladro Pinstriped Pants (L$300 for Ladro Outfit) keep this look classy. — Ofcourse, Manna and myself always always choose Gold. Fellows often steer toward silver but times-a-changing and I say be brave fellas’, add a little gold. Even if it’s one of those fancy tooth implants. At Armidi, I was also able to snatch some Pyramid Cuffs in Black & Gold (L$135) and these snazzy Fi Umo Sunglasses (L$225).

soignelucas_1-2.jpg

Relaxing at the bar before hitting the dance floor. Smoking a FNKY! Cigarette (L$150). Easy slick hair, spike it up! with Rach Snookums Frangipani “Jake” Hair in Chocolate (L$200). My favorite male sex appeal skin of choice in SL is none other than FNKY! Antonio in Tan/Baby Face Soul Patch (L$1850).

soignelucas_1-3.jpg

Time to show these suckers how to spin the beat! Look bad-ass in Luth Brodie’s Reel Expression Mens poses (L$150 each).

soignelucas_1-5.jpg

You wake up with a hangover and a stranger in your bed. It happens. At least you look stylish in Armidi Intimizzio Boxer Briefs in Dark Gray (L$125) and out of bed hair The Grammar from Armidi in Mocha (L$295). Slip on your FNKY! Executive Glasses I (L$330) and turn them red to look smart and busy.

soignelucas_1-6.jpg

And now you nod and take down their number in your savvy 803 Slurry Street Pocket PC (L$350). Put them down as “The blonde one with wavy hair”. Smile, escort them out and get more sleep for tomorrow night.

My eyes of choice at the moment is Purple eyes from Fashionably Dead (around L$60).

The Catwalk Collection by Last Call

Posted by Caliah Lyon on August 19, 2007

Beautiful does not even begin to describe the Catwalk Collection, the latest release by Last Call. When I mentioned Jean-Paul Gaultier’s stunning fall collection and some highlights of the fall fashion shows in my previous posts, I’d hoped that some of the visual elements of this season would serve as inspiration to designers and find their way to SL; I was surprised and delighted that Ginny not only took notice, but took these elements and turned out a release of such quality that it is easily one of her best to date.

Here are my picks from the Last Call Catwalk Collection.

When I was perusing the new releases, one kept catching my eye. It was in the colours that I used to favour before I’d changed skins, and the uniqueness of the coat in the photo intrigued me. As it turns out, the Dominica Nordic Riding Coat easily became one of my favourites of this collection; this is an outfit that one can take pleasure in with just a leisurely appraisal of the details. Photos really cannot do the crystal-studded coat and riding breeches justice; this particular outfit should be seen to be appreciated.

Dominica
Last Call Catwalk Collection: Dominica. Liah Boots in Gunmetal by Lyra Muse, Last Call Vamp. Hair: Europa in Taupe by Stumbelina Ophelia of Cake; Heirloom Memories Locket in Multi/Gold by Lucas Lameth of Earthtones.

The first I had to acquire was this, the Equestria outfit. Sleek, chic, androgynously elegant yet feminine, given more flair with epaulets and dramatically long, sweeping coat-tails, this coat and breeches ensemble suits my taste perfectly. The texture of the coat is such that you can almost feel the weight and density of the fabric. The floral detail on the blouse, the delicate lace at the sleeves – all in all this is a beautifully detailed riding suit that should satisfy the most discerning of tastes.

Equestria
Last Call Catwalk Collection: Equestria. Melisande Boots in Onyx by Lyra Muse, Last Call Vamp. Hair: Europa in Coffee by Stumbelina Ophelia of Cake.

Cherry Blossoms

Posted by Caliah Lyon on August 2, 2007

It’s rather rare these days that I see something on the blogs that immediately qualifies as a must-have. I’ve grown much pickier than I was as a dewy-eyed noob, so much so that I spend a lot of my shopping time searching fruitlessly for something to satisfy my acquisition fetish.

When Cherry Tokyo announced this release I knew I absolutely had to have it. If, in Western dress, my tastes tend to run toward the simple and monochromatic, when it comes to Japanese attire in SL I have a weakness for sakurabana (cherry blossoms) and the colour pink on kimonos and furisode – so long as the pattern is intricate and the kimono of good quality.

Cherry Tokyo Pink Uchikake and Kimono; Momoware Hair by Ruru Nagy of Lala Moon

This was not just a kimono, but an uchikake – the long, ornate overcoat once worn by women of the upper classes prior to the Edo period, now traditional wedding garb. There are two obis – a geisha/maiko obi, tied at back, and the oiran (a highly-ranked courtesan) obi, tied at the front. All nineteen pieces of this ensemble are no copy and no mod; however, there is a modifiable shape included made to fit the kimono exactly. I chose to see if I could get my uchikake custom-fit, as everything else fit perfectly. Cherry was very accomodating, and spoke of how she takes the kimono prints from her own collection.

The pink uchikake/kimono with a Kasa (parasol) by Rumi Simpson. The Kasa can open and close, and drops particle cherry blossoms.

The kimono, sans uchikake. Hair: Left – Smooth in Black by Kin Keiko; Right – Momoware by Ruru Nagy
